DNA Painter Videos

Below is a video from August of 2018, where I demonstrate the DNA Painter Software. To my knowledge, this is the only video online that shows the software and where to click. This will hopefully be a good orientation to the software when written instructions fail! It's really important that you are familiar with the basic vocabulary of DNA Painter before you watch this video. Make sure you have read the beginner section and understand what segment data looks like!

Additionally, this video will walk you through some basics in Excel. I share some tips and tricks (like shortcut keys!) that I use to make it as easy to paint as possible. If you are using another spreadsheet software or operating system (I'm on Windows 8), some of these tricks may not work at all or exactly the same way. Try googling for a similar fix! There may be shortcuts for your system that work for you!

One last note--shortly after this video was made, a new version of DNA Painter was released with the ability to import entire .csv files. If you are a subscriber, it may be tempting to use that as your primary method for importing. I suggest still learning how to paint manually with relative expediency. This very basic function will never truly go away, so it's best to learn how to do it well!
